A glimpse of past years at the Washington Parish Fair

A glimpse of past years at the Washington Parish Fair will be the theme of the Varnado Store Museum exhibits during weekends of September and October. Chairperson Genevieve Brannan will display items highlighting all phases of the Fair, including its early history and beginnings.

Anyone having items of interest about past fairs are encouraged to loan them for display in the museum for those two months. This could include anything about the history of the Fair, Midway posters, early photographs, special events and occasions, the baby contest, rodeo and livestock shows, midway, fair queens, stage, past honorees, concessions, photographs, etc. Anyone who has an item that received "Best of Show" in crafts, the Women's Building, Art, Flower, and Ag buildings and more are encouraged to share their items and memories from past years.

Set up for the display will be Thursday, September 1, 2005 at the museum from 3:00 – 5:00 p.m.

The century-old general store, non-profit museum is dedicated to preserving local history and providing educational and entertaining opportunities for all ages. Open every weekend with changing monthly exhibits, the museum also displays items from a general store as its permanent exhibit, providing a nostalgic look at days gone by.

A gift shop is open with homemade jellies and more. Special highlighted item for sale in the shop is a 1910 reproduction booklet about life along the New Orleans and Great Northern Railroad, including photographs and delightful historical information about Tylertown, MS, Washington and St. Tammany parishes - Franklinton, Bogalusa, Covington, Mandeville, Slidell, Abita Springs, Bayou Lacombe.
