D.A. Varnado Store Museum in Franklinton, Washington Parish, LA 936 Pearl Street, (located just behind the parish courthouse)

The century-old general store/museum in Washington Parish once again offers an exciting and educational display of memorabilia for the month of May Thomas, there are also some corrections to the web pages as follows, please: 1. "Picture This....a photographic history of Washington parish" needs to be deleted, as that was changed, giving more time for the grant deadlines, new title etc. And that was a great thing, since Katrina came along!. Remove it from Oct. and November. It's firmly rescheduled with a new title (see previous email) for April and May. 2. October is : WHAT: Varnado Store Museum exhibit for weekends October will be, "An Historic Look at the Washington Parish Fair" WHERE: Varnado Store Museum, 936 Pearl Street, Franklinton, Washington Parish, LA (located behind the parish courthouse) WHEN: October, 2005 (Museum is closed during the Washington Parish Fair, October 22 and 23rd) Saturdays 10 - 4 Sundays 1 - 4 (Other times by special arrangement) ADMISSION: FREE Due to the hurricanes, the Varnado Store Museum was closed in September, but will now reopen each weekend with a nostalgic and interesting exhibit weekends in October. A glimpse of past years at the Washington Parish Fair is the theme of the delightful exhibit now set up for October. Chairperson Genevieve Brannan will display items highlighting all phases of the Fair, including its early history and beginnings. Anyone having items of interest about past fairs are encouraged to loan them for display in the museum for that month. This could include anything about the history of the Fair, Midway posters, early photographs, special events and occasions, the baby contest, rodeo and livestock shows, midway, fair queens, stage, past honorees, concessions, photographs, etc. Anyone who has an item that received "Best of Show" in crafts, the Women's Building, Art, Flower, and Ag buildings and more are encouraged to share their items and memories from past years. See Ms. Brannan or bring them by the museum this Saturday, Oct. 1. (At this time the Fair is scheduled to be held this year, though it will be modified some due to the recent weather. There will be no parade however. See www.freefair.com for more details.) For more information contact Genny Brannan, 839-3215 or 839-2209, or any museum Board Member. 3. November and December will be "Have Yourself a Vintage Merry Christmas"......weekends at the Museum. (closed Thanksgiving, Christmas weekend and New Year's weekend.) 4. November will also have the Festival of Trees - at the Fairgrounds -as sent in the previous email. NOTE: The times for Festival of Trees is till 5: p.m. each day, not 6 p.m. 5. The membership info is great to have on the web. On that page Benton Taylor needs to be removed as a board member. I think he was removed in other places OK.
