The century-old general store/museum in Washington Parish once again offers an exciting and educational display of memorabilia for the month of March, entitled "All Aboard!!…..Trains and Railroads".
Most families in southeast Louisiana and Mississippi were directly or indirectly affected by the expansion of the railroads in the early years of settlement.
Several personal collections of early railroad items will be displayed, including that of William Brumfield of Angie, LA and historian, the late Mr. Daunton Gibbs. Models of the Franklinton Depot and water tower, handcrafted by Mr. Gibbs will be a highlight of the exhibit. Items will also include photographs, railroad tools, lanterns, books, and more.
Various lectures and presentations will be offered throughout the month.
Check web site for schedule TBA.
The museum's permanent display gives the visitor a step back in time to browse the pre-1950 general store. In addition special emphasis exhibits in the center of the store are changed each month to highlight topics important to the history of the area and to entice visitors to come back often. See the 2005 schedule online.
