"Mom, what is a pants stretcher?" "How does this heavy little iron heat up to press clothes since there is no cord?" " What is this with the bent wires on the end? (hand mixer) "
These and more questions might be asked by younger generations of visitors to the Varnado Store Museum in Franklinton weekends in June as memorabilia from the 1920's, 1930's, and 1940's will showcase items used by the homemaker. See an early electric churn for making butter, laundry scrub boards, vintage cooking tools and tablecloths, old-style appliances of all types, sewing machines, notions and more from days gone by. The wide variety of early 20th century household tools is sure to result in a deep appreciation for our modern conveniences of today.
The century-old general store/museum once again will highlight local heritage and customs, this time revealing a glimpse of typical daily life of the housekeeper in homes throughout southeast Louisiana and Washington Parish decades ago.
