The Varnado Store Museum will once again by popular demand highlight the Civil War, with memorabilia including uniforms, weapons, and more.
On JULY 30 AND 31ST living history will be portrayed by re-enactors from the 7th Louisiana Company K providing a glimpse of civilian and military life during the Civil War years. (one weekend only)
At 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 10, the ladies will provide a special presentation entitled, "Dress the Lady" , demonstrating clothing worn by ladies in the 1860's
Noted Civil War enthusiast and attorney, M. Reggie Simmons, will present a colorful and educational discussion on a topic of his choice about the Civil War and its effects on southeast LA on Sunday, July 24, at 2:00 p.m.
The century-old general store, non-profit museum is dedicated to preserving local history and providing educational and entertaining opportunities for all ages. Open every weekend with changing monthly exhibits, the museum also displays items from a general store as its permanent exhibit, providing a nostalgic look at days gone by.
A gift shop is open and the museum is handicapped accessible. Admission is free.
