VARNADO STORE MUSEUM TO HOST ANTIQUE AND VINTAGE QUILT SHOW ENTITLED: "GRANDMOTHER'S PATCHWORK"

Quilt Exhibit, Vintage Sewing and Quilting Tools, Demonstrations

WEEKENDS ONLY THE MONTH OF JANUARY 2005 (SPECIAL DEMONSTRATIONS at various times throughout the weekends.)

SATURDAYS 10 - 4 p.m.

SUNDAYS 1 - 4 p.m

(Fridays by appointment only)

FREE ADMISSION. Donations to the museum welcome.

The Varnado Store Museum, a century-old general store on the National Register of Historic Places, located in Franklinton begins its new year of monthly exhibits with a wonderful display of antique quilts and vintage sewing tools and equipment. Back by popular request is the Antique Quilt Show during the month of January, weekends only.

The museum will host, "Grandmother's Patchwork", a delightful exhibit of family heirloom quilts of varied styles and patterns, every weekend during January. Also on display will be antique tools and other quilting and sewing equipment.

Co-Chairmen include: Darlene Jones, 985-839-4210, Nell Smith and Jackie Smith. Area residents, relatives, and friends are encouraged to search closets and chests for those treasured items and share them and their history or background with others for the month of January . Quilts that have been previously exhibited are welcome, as well as other vintage quilted items of all types that may not have been previously displayed . Items may be brought to the museum on Friday, January 7, 2005 between the hours of 3:00 and 5:00 p.m.

Special activities will be held as local quilters will be on hand at various times to demonstrate quilting and answer any questions. The following is a list of scheduled presentations:

Sunday, January 9, 2005 1:30 p.m.- 2:30 p.m.

Judy Corkern Jensen will present discussion, "Evolution of Quilting"

Saturday, January 15, 2005 10:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. 1:30 p.m. – 2:30 p.m.

Sherri Breeding, Owner and Educator of Cabin Fever –Fine Sewing and Learning Center, will discuss "Back to the Original Art of Quilting, Hand Quilting". She will also demonstrate the use of color in quilting.

Sunday, January 23, 2005 1:30 p.m. – 2:30 p.m.

Judy Corkern Jensen's topic will be "Quilts from the '30's".

Saturday, January 29, 2005 10:30 a.m. and again 1:00 p.m.

Kathy David Mauthe presents "Quilting – Preserving Antique Photos"

Sunday, January 30, 2005 2:00 – 3:00 p.m.

Debbie Sylvest presents: "Quilting Tools from the Past and Present" And "Grandmother's Quilt".

Volunteer hosts will welcome guests to the museum and gift shop. Free admission. The museum is handicapped accessible. Do consult our web site for more information about us and a look at the 2005 schedule of changing monthly exhibits for the first quarter, which includes "Old Time Religion – Our Heritage of Faith" in February, and "All Aboard!!..Trains and Railroads" in March.
