Mark you calendars now for the annual Spring Street Fair, held near the Washington Parish Courthouse, by the Varnado Store Museum in Franklinton. Date: Saturday, April 16, 2005 from 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. This annual event offers booths filled with food, soft drinks, hand-crafted items, plants, animals, crafts, art, garage sales and more. A silent auction will be held.
If you are planning a garage sale, you are encouraged to make that your weekend of choice .....either rent at booth at the Street Fair, where visitors are sure to be shopping, or hold your own in the town......a town wide, parish-wide garage sale, sure to draw many visitors!
Vendors of all types may rent a space along the Street: $25.00 for craft/plant/yard sales $50.00 for food vendors Contact vendor chairperson, Kay Branch, 985-839-0182 after 5:00 p.m. as soon as possible, as space is limited.
An exciting special attraction this year will be presentations by members of the Louisiana Gulf Coast Herpetological Society. Some members, professions and amateur, of the Society will have on hand reptiles of all sizes, arachnids, amphibians and more, demonstrating to visitors interesting facts about the animals and discuss habitats and environment, responsible collection and conservation, regulatory issues, and more. They will be at the Street Fair from 9 - 4.
Special guest, LGCH member, 11 year old Louisianian, Elizabeth Mule` of Metairie, will be on hand to discuss her collection of over 50 spiders and tarantulas. She has recently appeared on the Oprah Show, Tonight Show with Jay Leno, and the Ellen DeGeneres Show, with an appearance upcoming on the Today Show. Her expertise and interest in the use of tarantula venom for healing purposes has made her research and interest widely known.
The Museum will be open for visitors all day with a special Coca-Cola memorabilia display. Admission Free.
Proceeds from the Street Fair go toward the maintenance of the century-old museum and provision of educational, historical exhibits.
